La via dei Contrabbandieri (smugglers way), or tracciolino, on Lake Garda
A crossing on a ledge: to climb literally suspended between the sky and the water
The via dei Contrabbandieri (smugglers way) is not a via ferrata but an unequipped ledge overlooking the lake between Riva del Garda and Limone; I could describe it as a horizontal mountaineer route to be tackled with the same techniques of vertical climbing.
The fixed steel wire is located in only a few places; to cross it you walk and climb belayed by my rope. It is very beautiful and famous, for sure one of the most panoramic and exciting routes but does require experience in via ferrata or rock climbing. It is not suitable to children or anybody who suffers from vertigo or has a fear of heights.
- Mustn't suffer from vertigo
- Experience on via ferrata or rock climbing
- Mountain guide UIAGM
- Equipment rental
- Transfer from meeting point
What to bring
- Trekking or running shoes
- Backpack with snack and water
- Waterproof jacket
The car park is located near the center of Arco, in the Caneve area: it is comfortable, large, free and easy to reach, even on foot. From there we leave together with my van.
Bring a lightweight backpack with a jacket, drinking water and a snack/energy bar.
A pair of low trekking shoes or trainers are fine, sandals even those with a trekking sole are not suitable.
Wear comfortable and sportive clothing.
Yes, you will feel enthusiast when you climb attached to a metal cable and you will feel extremely safe.
No climbing skills are required. A via ferrata helps you to arrive at the summit without needing any climbing or mountaineering skills.
